How to tell military time chart

military time chart: A Guide To Telling The Time

If you're working in a job or educational course related to the military, you'll likely come across something called "military time." This is a type of timekeeping system that uses four digits instead of two to denote the hour and remaining minutes. As this system can be confusing for those who haven't learned it yet, here is quick guide to understanding the military time chart.

On the military time chart, all hours are noted using four numbers. For example, 1 PM would become 1300, while 6 PM would be 1800. The first two digits on the chart indicate the hour, while the last two digits indicate the minutes passed since that hour began. So if you were writing 3:15 PM out in military time, you'd write it as 1515.

When dealing with midnight or noon on a military time chart, things get a little tricky. To denote midnight—otherwise known as 0000—in military time, you will write 2400 instead of 0000; thus 12 AM becomes 2400 and 12 PM becomes 1200 on the chart. It's important to note that on a 24-hour clock there are no separate 20 and 21 hours; rather 0800 is 8 AM and 2000 is 8 PM.
